Wikipedia’s Best Pictures of the Day From 2018

Most of us have used Wikipedia, an online encyclopedia based on free content, either for writing entries, using information to prove arguments, solving simple fights, or even conducting research. This month, Wikipedia celebrated its 15th birthday, and as part of the celebrations, we decided to collect the various pictures of the day that were published on the site over the years. Historical images, magnificent places, wonderfully impressive buildings and more are just part of Wikipedia's vast and impressive database of images, and here are 21 pictures from the past year that present the wonders of our beautiful and diverse world.

Here in the picture, we see a colony of Southern Rockhopper Penguins on the Falkland Islands. This penguin is the most common, and during mating season colonies are created that can reach hundreds of thousands of individuals. These penguins are found in the western Indian Ocean, the Pacific Ocean and in the areas adjacent to the southern shores of South America.

In the picture you can see a Bugatti Chiron, a supercar developed in 2016 by Volkswagen Group Bugatti. This vehicle is considered the fastest road car in serial production, and for safety reasons, its speed was limited to "only" 260 mph.

The Columbia space shuttle, which was NASA's first space shuttle, carried 28 space missions when 160 astronauts flew in. On February 1, 2003, the shuttle crashed into the atmosphere with seven astronauts aboard.

This valley is located in the north of Israel, and it covers most of the area of the "finger of Galilee"; The valley extends from the foot of the Hermon to the Sea of Galilee, where the Jordan River flows.

This is the building of the Hungarian Parliament in Budapest, Hungary - the largest and most magnificent building in the country, designed to symbolize the revival of Hungarian nationalism. This picture shows the temple of Isis in Philae, Egypt. In fact, Philae is an ancient Egyptian temple complex, an archaeological site and a world heritage site currently located on the island of Agilkia. In 1902, the area where Philae was located (south of Aswan) was flooded with the construction of the low Aswan Dam, and in order to save the Temple, it was dismantled and rebuilt on the nearby island.

This is the oil painting by Jean-Léon Gérôme., a French painter from the 19th century, which is called "Bonaparte before the Sphinx." In the photo below you can see the Lava Lake in Nyiragongo, an active volcano located within the Virunga National Park in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. This volcano is the most active in the entire African continent.

In this photo you can see the cathedral named after Alexander Nevsky, Prince of Novgorod and Vladimir, who lived in the 13th century. The cathedral is located in Sofia, Bulgaria, where it began being built in 1882 and was finished in 1912. It was built to commemorate the soldiers of the Russian Empire who were killed during the Ottoman-Russian War of 1877-1878.

Here is a picture of the Vietnamese monk Thich Quang Duc, who burned himself to death at a crowded intersection in the city of Saigon (now called Ho Chi Minh City) in 1963. Duc acted out of protest against the persecution of the Buddhists by the South Vietnamese government and its then president, Ngo Dinh Diem.

In the drainage basin of the river, there is a special concentration of caves used by the ancient man in the Paleolithic period.
