These Photos of Seeds and Fruits Are Works of Art!

Not many of us give a second thought to seeds. But British photographer Levon Biss is fascinated by them and reveals their unexpected beauty to the world through his lens. His photo series The Hidden Beauty of Seeds and Fruits gives us a close-up look at the many unique specimens housed at Edinburgh’s Royal Botanic Garden.

The photographer couldn’t help but marvel at the unique shapes and structures of different fruits and seeds. For instance, the world's largest seed, the coco de mer, can weigh over 50 pounds (22.6 kg) and measure up to three feet (36 inches) in circumference. And its details, which are otherwise hidden to the naked eye, are even more remarkable. Then there’s the candlestick banksia, which has an exterior that looks like dried noodles. Biss has captured the intricate details of many more such seeds in his photo series using a technique called photo stacking.

It was no easy task, as the photographer had to sort through hundreds of thousands of specimens to choose the final 117 that was selected for his book. The initial selections were based on aesthetics, and eventually, he hopes that his works will become an educational tool to generate interest and awareness in people about nature and the environment.

Now, let’s take a look at some of the best works of Levon Biss from his photo series.
