Classic Apple and Cheese Panini

A classic cheese melt is not the only thing you can make in the panini press. This bistro-style sandwich combines sweet and savory ingredients - bacon, cheese, apples, and apple jam - and it's mouthwateringly delicious. You'll surely enjoy this unusual treat as a quick midday lunch.

Classic Apple and Cheese Panini
Ingredients for Classic Apple and Cheese Panini:
Bacon slices - 12 (cut in half)
Apple - 1 (thinly sliced)
Ginger ale - 1 tbsp.
Lemon juice - 1 tsp.
Apple jelly - 1/4 cup
Tarragon - 4 tsp. (minced)
Dijon mustard - 2 tbsp.
Unsalted butter - 1/3 stick (softened)
Sourdough bread - 12 slices
Havarti cheese - 6 slices
Method of preparing the Classic Apple and Cheese Panini:
  1. In a large frying pan, cook the bacon until crisp and golden. Transfer the cooked bacon to a plate lined with paper towels.
  2. In a bowl, toss the sliced apples with the ginger ale and lemon juice. Set aside.
  3. Pour the apple jelly into a small microwave-safe dish and heat on high for 30 seconds. Then stir in the chopped tarragon.
  4. Spread the tarragon jelly on 6 bread slices. Top each slice with cheese, bacon, and apple.
  5. Spread the mustard on the remaining slices of bread and top each sandwich with a slice of bread.
  6. Butter the outsides of the sandwiches, then cook in a panini press for 3-5 minutes or until golden brown and the cheese has melted.
  7. Transfer to a plate and serve immediately.
