Zay Yar Lin is a Myanmar-based photographer, who has been honing his skills since 2014. His unique take on lighting, composition, and color make the fact that Kin is completely self-taught rather surprising. The subject matter of his images are people - he captures seemingly everyday moments of travel, work, and exercise, and makes them into a work of art.
Photography is not Lin’s full-time job though, at least not yet. He is a sea captain by day, and his occupation has exposed him to some of the most striking compositions, for example, a bird’s eye view of a seafarer cleaning a sea deck, contrasted with the ocean waters on his right side. “My favorite styles of photography are culture, portraits, and landscape which tell stories of the people and sense of the place,” he wrote on his website.
Lin has quite a few photography-related accomplishments under his belt - he is two times the Best Photographer of the Year in the Myanmar Photographic Society. In 2016, a photo of his was published in a printed edition of National Geographic Magazine, and in 2018 he was crowned Grand Prize winner of American Photography Open.
