You probably don't think twice about tasks like peeling a carrot or cutting broccoli, but for one Japanese artist, Takehiro Kishimoto, it's a complex task that requires hours of work and miniature precision. He is inspired by the food carving tradition that has existed in Japan since the 16th century, and some of the characters he sculpts are also imaginary creatures from Eastern legends. He uses a variety of tools, including knives, chisels, and tweezers, and his work has been featured in exhibitions and publications around the world. He calls himself Gaku on his Instagram account, where he shares with the world delicate and special sculptures, intricate geometric designs and a whole new perspective on what can be done with fruits and vegetables.
