How to Deep Clean Your Bathtub Quickly and Safely

Bathtubs provide a great way to relax and ease your stress. A long, leisurely soak in a hot bath can be the best way to unwind at the end of the day. However, these tubs also capture dirt, bacteria, hard-water deposits, soap scum, and even mold or mildew daily and if they are not cleaned regularly, grimy buildup will spoil your bathing experience. Moreover, the longer you delay cleaning the bathtub, the harder it will be to get rid of the stains.
So instead of spending time in a not-quite-clean bathing tub, why not take steps to make it sparkling clean? No, it’s not a lot of hard work (well, maybe just a little). We will show you the steps to get a stain-free bathtub with ease. Follow this simple guide and you will maintain your tub's shine forever.

Now here comes the trickier part. Tough stains from hard-water deposits, bacteria, or mold, will not be that easy to remove. Especially if they have been clinging to the surface for a long time. But these steps will help.
* Make a paste of two-thirds baking soda to one-third hydrogen peroxide. You can even use cream of tartar in place of baking soda.
* Spread the paste over the affected area on the tub and let it sit for 30 minutes.
* Wipe and rinse.
* If the stubborn stains still don’t go away, don’t lose heart. Repeat the same process a few more times. Some of these stains might require consistent efforts to completely eliminate.

Hard water stains, also known as mineral deposits or mineral buildup, are brown or reddish spots in your tub that are usually caused by the accumulation of excess minerals present in hard water. These stains should be removed regularly or they’ll keep returning.
* Mix equal parts white vinegar and fresh water in a spray bottle.
* Spray the solution thoroughly on the stained areas and let it sit for at least 15 minutes.
* Rinse and wipe clean with a clean, dry microfiber towel.
If the stains are strong and you need some extra scrubbing power, try the following method:
* Add white vinegar directly to baking soda until you get a thick, wet paste.
* Spread the paste over the affected surfaces and let it sit for 15 minutes.
* Wipe clean with a dry microfiber cleaning cloth.
* You might need to do this for a few weeks regularly to reduce spots and brighten the tub's surface.

How to remove rust stains from your bathtub

Unsightly splotches of rust under the faucet of the bathtub can look really ugly. But there are two effective ways you can get them off.

* Sprinkle borax on the rust stains.

* Take the cut half of a big lemon and rub it over the stains until a thick paste has formed.

* Let the paste sit for about an hour.

* Use a microfiber cloth to gently scrub the mixture away.

* Wipe and rinse.

If the above solution doesn’t work, try the mixture of baking soda and vinegar next.

* Combine three parts baking soda to one part vinegar in a bowl and stir until a thick paste is formed.

* Apply the paste on the rusty areas of the tub using a scrub sponge.

* Let it sit for an hour. Scrub and rinse it off.

* If the rust stains don’t go away on the first attempt, repeat the process a few more times.

General tips to remember while cleaning your bathtub

* Make sure that you don’t use steel wool or extremely abrasive brushes on the tub. They might help you get rid of the stains but the surface might get permanently damaged.

* Keep in mind that bathtubs are made from a variety of materials, such as acrylic, enamel, and porcelain, and each tub can react differently to cleaners. Therefore, we suggest you first do a spot test with the cleaning method you intend to try on a small, unnoticeable area of the tub before attempting to remove the stains.

* For general cleaning of acrylic, enamel, and porcelain tubs, dishwashing liquid will be safe and ideal

Hydrogen peroxide and bleach can discolor fabrics. So make sure to wear old clothes while using such chemicals for cleaning.

* Some chemical combinations can create toxic fumes or singe your skin – like chlorine bleach and ammonia, for instance. Avoid mixing them at all costs.

* While cleaning your bathtub, always start with the gentlest method first. If it doesn’t work, then move your way to the more serious ones.

* Keeping your bathtub spotlessly clean always requires regular effort. Try to rinse the tub surface with clean, warm water, or dishwashing liquid at least once a week. Remove the excess moisture with a microfiber cloth or sponge.
