Over the years we have shared various artists with you who use pretty unconventional materials for their craft, and while we’re already well aware that an artist doesn’t have to use pencils or paint to create exquisite or realistic work, it is still extremely impressive to encounter such artists. Deniz Sağdıç is exactly this kind of multimedia artist - she developed a diverse body of work by upcycling various fabrics. Denim Skin and Ready Remade are two ongoing projects in which she uses scraps of denim to put together highly realistic and detailed portraits of men and women.
Turkey-based Sağdıç collects denim materials in a variety of blue hues, cuts them into squares, rectangles, or long strips, and arranges them on a canvas. She cleverly uses the paler shades for the more illuminated part of the face, while the darker ones serve as shadows. This technique gives the portraits their realistic and three-dimensional properties. Scroll down to enjoy some of Sağdıç's most striking works.
