According to the experts, over 700 children have died from heatstroke since 1998 in the US alone after being trapped in hot vehicles. However, thanks to the hard work and determination of this bright 10-year-old boy, tragedies like these could soon be a thing of the past:

Bishop Curry from McKinney, Texas has invented a device called the Oasis.

10-Year-Old Invents Device That Saves Lives

This smart little gadget monitors a vehicle’s temperature, and emits waves of cool air once it gets too high. When it activates, it will also alert parents and authorities of the situation via an antenna.

The device is meant to be placed on the back of the driver or passenger's headrest, or directly onto a kid's car seat.

Bishop's father warns that "Sometimes babies fall asleep and they're really quiet, so if you're rushing home from work or you're rushing to the grocery store, I could see how somebody could forget."

Bishop decided to start working on the Oasis following the tragic passing of his neighbor's 6-month-old child that was left alone in a hot car.

This tragedy really hit close to home, since Bishop has a one-year-old sister of his own, and says he would do anything to make sure she stays safe!

The fifth-grader already has a patent pending on the Oasis, and his dad, who works at Toyota, has even alerted company bosses of Bishop's creation.

Bishop says that one of his life's biggest dreams is to have created loads of different inventions that help save people's lives every day.

This isn't the first thing that this little genius has invented, either.

So just how deadly can a hot car be?

Two of the most common heat-related illnesses that can quickly arise from being trapped in a hot car are heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Learn the symptoms of both and what to do to solve the problem below:

Symptoms of Heat Exhaustion

• Heavy sweating

• Weakness

• Cold, pale, and clammy skin

• Fast, weak pulse

• Nausea or vomiting

• Fainting

What You Can Do

• Move to a cooler place.

• Lie down and loosen your clothing.

• Apply cool, wet cloths to as much of your body as possible.

• Sip some water.

• If you keep on vomiting, then seek medical attention immediately.

Symptoms of Heat Stroke

• High body temperature (above 103°F)

• Hot, red, dry or moist skin

• Strong and rapid pulse

• Loss of consciousness

What You Can Do

• Call the emergency services immediately — this is a medical emergency.

• Move the person to a cooler environment.

• Reduce the person's body temperature with cool cloths or even a bath.

• Do NOT give them any fluids.
