According to the popular saying, “the kitchen is the heart of a home,” And every kitchen has a fridge, which arguably makes the fridge the heart of the kitchen. After all, most of us have quite a close relationship with our fridges, and we rely on them at least 3 times a day. You’d be surprised how much a peek into your kitchen can reveal about you. Do you live on your own? Do you have kids? What part of the world are you from? And the list goes on... Not only that, but the content of a fridge can also tell the story of current trends and the societal norms of a time and place.
These insights did not escape German designer and photographer Sandra Juncker, who decided to peek into people’s fridges around the world and see what the contents tell about their lives. The result is the absolutely fascinating photo series below.

From 2012 to 2018 people from London, Cape Town, Pretoria, Istanbul, Madrid, Paris, and Berlin have opened their fridges to Juncker. These people are of different personalities, nationalities, cultures, traditions, ages, and social statuses, and Juncker tried to capture the link between these factors and the contents of these people’s fridges.

A peek into one’s fridge turns out to be more intimate than you might think. Not only can it reveal the answers to some of the questions we posed before, but it can delve deeper into the details of your lifestyle. It can show how well-organized and tidy you are or if you are vegetarian or vegan, for example. Of course, judging a person entirely based on their fridge would be inaccurate, but when you look through the list and spot the little details, you might be able to guess to whom they might belong.
