The vicious fires that broke out in recent days in Yosemite has destroyed more than 282 square miles. This is the largest fire in Sierra's recorded history, and although containment is at 20%, more than 100 buildings have been destroyed, with another 4,500 threatened. Firefighters are batteling the flames and making heroic stands all along the huge area affected.

The fire, which has been going on for at least 10 days now, exploded from 40 acres to more than 200,000 acres today.

Many scientists claim that global warming is behind such huge fires, as the temperature is a bit warmer every year, and the woods a bit drier. The impact of the fires on wildlife is feared to be great, as Yosemite is home to several endangered species, any loss of wildlife could have terrible significance. |
