These Old Watercolor Paintings Look So Charmingly Surreal

When we talk of famous watercolor artists who left an indelible mark in the history of the medium, a few names instantly pop up in our minds - John Singer Sargent, Winslow Homer, John James Audubon, and Thomas Moran, to name a few. However, one of the pioneers of the medium was Joseph Mallord William Turner (1775-1851).

The English painter left a lasting impression on the history of art through his sublime artworks and is still remembered fondly for his magnificent landscape paintings. Turner was an oil painter, watercolorist, and printmaker who is often celebrated for his role in the emergence of modern art. He dedicated his life to art and in a glorious career spanning many decades, he ended up creating 550 oil paintings, 2,000 watercolors, and 30,000 works on paper.

Turner loved bringing splendid views of nature to life and was a master of landscape and marine painting. He brilliantly captured the effects of color and light in his works and that earned him the nickname "The Painter of Light".

Today, we will look at some of the finest artworks of J.M.W. Turner. From landscapes and marine art to some wonderful depictions of beautiful structures, these old paintings will charm you.
