There is nothing like traveling to experience the excitement and adventure of new places, but the cost and inconveniences associated with hotel stays can sometimes dampen the experience. While hotels are intended to provide guests with the greatest comfort, intricate details of hotel design sometimes overlook key factors. You'll notice these shortcomings when they become an annoyance. Fortunately, savvy travelers have discovered a variety of hotel hacks that not only enhance your stay but also help you save money. 1. If you're concerned about hotel security, hang a glass on the doorknob before going to bed. If someone tries to open the door, you'll be startled, and the intruder will be scared.

2. You can "iron" your clothes in the shower. Simply put your items on hangers and run hot water for 5-10 minutes.

3. If the curtains fit loosely together and you are obstructed by street light, use a hanger with clothes pins to fasten the pieces together.

4. A soiled item can be washed in the sink by plugging the drain with a piece of toilet paper in a bag. Softened soap might also be used.

5. The ironing board can easily be transformed into a workstation. It can also be used as a changing table or for keeping baggage.

6. When leaving the room, use any normal card instead of the special door card. Electrical power is sometimes only turned on when you are in your room and have inserted your card into the corresponding slot. But what if you need to charge your phone and then go somewhere else? Another plastic card, even a trip card, can be inserted into the slot.

7. The hotel TV remote control is usually dirty. Wrap it in a shower cap or a disposable slipper bag to avoid soiling your hands.

8. If you are unsure about the quality of the ice served in the hotel room, do not use it in your drink. Instead, place the glass or cup in an ice-filled container.

9. To dim lights that cannot be turned off, use a magazine or a restaurant menu.

10. A hair dryer is available in many rooms. This comes in handy if you need to dry your damp shoes.

11. Tightly roll a towel and tuck it beneath the door. This will help make your hotel room darker and quieter.

12. If there's no place to store toothbrushes, use toilet paper; an additional roll of toilet paper is normally left in the rooms.
