Orange Pisco Hot Chocolate (Alcoholic)

While there's nothing like a good safe recipe for the kids, there comes an hour when they lay safe and sound in their beds and you can crash, safe and sound, on the sofa. Why not do it with a grown-ups' hot cocoa of your own? This one features an orange liquor, perfect for the cold winter months. The tangy orange zest will give your taste buds an unexpected little treat!

Ingredients for drink:
Cocoa powder - 1/4 cup
Granulated sugar - 1 tbsp.
Salt - a pinch
Whole milk - 3 cups
Milk chocolate chips - 8 oz. (alternative: dark chocolate chips)
Grand marnier - 3 fl oz. (alternative: other orange liquor/triple sec)
Rum - 4 fl oz. (alternative: pisco)
Orange zest - as needed
Whipped cream - as needed (for topping)
Method of preparing the drink:
  1. Stir cocoa with sugar and salt into a medium saucepan. Stir in milk, milk chocolate chips, and dark chocolate (if you'd like).
  2. Heat over medium heat until chocolate is melted, and the mixture is hot. Gently whisk until smooth and even.
  3. Add Grand Marnier or Cointreau with pisco or rum. Divide into four serving cups. You can rub the rim of each cup with orange zest.
  4. Top with whipped cream, candied orange peel, and orange zest. Serve immediately.
Chef's Tip:
If you enjoy dark chocolate, you can swap the milk chocolate chips to dark chocolate, or use half and half.
