The beach is a place of relaxation, fun, and endless possibilities. It's where we build sandcastles, splash in the waves, and soak up the sun. But for artist Janel Hawkins, the beach is also a canvas. Forget the simple sandcastles of your childhood; Hawkins is transforming stretches of coastline into open-air galleries with her intricate sand architectures.
These sculptures aren't your average sandcastles. They're elaborate, detailed works of art that celebrate the beauty and spirit of the Gulf Coast. As the founder of Sand Castle University, she doesn’t just create; she also teaches others the magic of sculpting. Her pieces are proof of what artistry, patience, and a little wet sand can achieve—before the waves reclaim them. Let's take a look at some of her best works.
