Recently, an X-ray of a pregnant dog went viral – and you can understand why. We, as humans, are intrigued by that which we do not get to see often (even if it’s kind of creepy) and, let’s face it, it’s not often that we get to see how baby animals look inside their mother’s womb. While ultrasounds are used for female humans, X-rays are usually used for animals. The reason behind this is that the photo is clearer, which is helpful because most animals have more babies than humans do. Therefore, an X-ray makes it easier for vets and owners to keep track.
Whilst X-rays can have negative effects on animals (like they can do with humans), they are not performed that often.
