To make things easy on yourself, it is best to keep tax returns, investment information, W-2 and 1099 forms, receipts, and any other supporting documentation handy and organized. Experts like Patel stress the importance of not only keeping these files neatly together but also away from prying eyes, preferably in a safe.

From passwords to work-related documents and personal photos, this is not material you want to fall into the wrong hands. If you share a living or working space and sometimes leave your laptop unattended, it's better to be safe than sorry and keep your laptop secured.
