Prep Time 2 hours and 30 minutes
Serves: 12
Difficulty Level: Medium
Ingredients for Upside-Down Roasted Turkey:
Whole fresh turkey - 1 (approximately 18 lbs)
Unsalted butter - 1 stick
Butcher's twine - to tie the turkey
Stuffing - optional
Salt and Pepper - as needed
Method of preparing the Upside-Down Roasted Turkey:
  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Level your loaf of bread by cutting off the top hump in order to make it flat.
  2. Slice open the loaf, keeping it connected at one side, as you would a sandwich. Open the bread flat and put it inside a roasting pan with the inside facing upwards. Butter it well.
  3. Season the bird inside and outside. Tuck the neck skin and wings under the breast and tie the legs. Use the video as guidance.
  4. Lay the turkey upside down on the bread. Season again.
  5. Insert into the oven legs first. Roast for 45 minutes. Remove from the oven, lower the temperature to 350°F (180°C), and flip the turkey.
  6. Roast again for 90 minutes, basting every 15 to 20 minutes until golden brown. If you chose to stuff the turkey, then your cooking time should be around 20 to 30 minutes longer.
  7. Let rest 30 minutes before carving.
