This Artist Recreates Famous Artwork With Colorful Pebbles

Some people prefer sand beaches over beaches with pebbles. Sand may be softer to lie on, but pebbles have their own advantages. The UK-based artist Justin Bateman uses pebbles to create temporary mosaics of famous masterpieces like Leonardo Da Vinci’s Mona Lisa and the Girl with a Pearl Earring by Johannes Vermeer.

All of Bateman’s pieces are created on-site, so they can only survive for a short time. According to the artist, the creative process is more important to him than leaving a permanent mark. Luckily, Bateman’s work is captured in photographs, so we can continue enjoying it despite its fleeting character. Take a look.
