10 Shoe Problems Solved by Smart Lacing

Everyone's feet are different. Some people have wide feet, which can make finding properly fitting shoes a challenge. Simply measuring foot length won't solve the problem. Shoelaces were invented to help with this issue. Many people don't know how to use shoelaces to customize the fit of their running shoes, but that's about to change. By lacing your shoes correctly, you can reduce pressure on certain areas of your feet and enjoy a more comfortable run in any pair of shoes

1. Wide feet

If you have wide feet, you can adjust the lacing of your running shoes to reduce discomfort on the sides. Although some brands offer shoes for wide feet, you can still modify your shoes by skipping holes to make them more flexible and looser.

2. Narrow feet

If you have narrow feet, you may experience your foot slipping inside the shoe even when laced tightly. To address this, skip only one hole towards the center of the shoe to achieve a snug fit.

3. High arches

If you have a high arch, you may experience discomfort while running due to the forward rolling movement of your foot. However, there is a solution to this problem. By creating a gap between the parts of the laces on the tab, you can support the shape of your foot and prevent the forward rolling movement.

4. Creating a bulge to give you midfoot space

Another issue that high arch sufferers may face is an unstable foot inside the shoe, which can be solved by creating space in the area of the bulge on the foot.

5. Too tight on top (in the laces area)

If your shoe is pressing too much on the top of the foot, try lacing in parallel lines instead of diagonally for relief.

6. Flatfoot

Although this binding won't provide a complete solution to your problem, it will certainly make your running experience better. It will protect your foot tendons from overstretching, which will significantly decrease the discomfort you feel while running. Follow the usual diagonal pattern and the special binding will be created at the end.

7. Slippery heel

If your shoe is too big, or even if it's the right size, your heel may still slip out. Despite its simple appearance, this binding is a popular choice among runners because it effectively prevents this frustrating slipping and can even improve running performance.

8. Swollen feet

Sometimes our feet change over time, causing swelling and making our shoes feel tight and uncomfortable. But there is a solution - a lacing technique that may look complex but can provide much-needed relief.

9. Narrow heel with a wide forefoot

This technique, called the "narrow heel and wide forefoot" lacing, requires two laces and can be especially helpful for those who struggle to find comfortable shoes. Simply start lacing from the top of the foot, with each lace on a different side, and tie at the end of the shoe instead of the beginning. It may take some trial and error to find the right amount of pressure, but once you do, you can say goodbye to discomfort.

10. Toe pain

At times, our toes can be the only issue we face with shoes. They may feel restricted or cause pain due to problems like ingrown toenails. However, with this binding technique, your toes will have the space they need to breathe. Say goodbye to the discomfort of black nails caused by cramped shoes. The binding involves a long diagonal on one side and a few shorter diagonals on the other, with the open part facing the big toe.
