Fig Cranberry Sauce

A nice and classy twist to the good ol' cranberry sauce. How about some figs? Bet you never thought of that! Throw some wine in there and you have yourself a rish cranberry sauce. For a non-alcoholic alternative, go for clear apple juice.

Prep Time 45 minutes
Serves: 1
Difficulty Level: Low
Fig Cranberry Sauce
Ingredients for sauce:
Red wine - 1 cup
Dried figs - 1 cup (stemmed, coarsely chopped)
Cranberries - 12 oz. (fresh or frozen)
White sugar - 3/4 cup
Orange peel - 3 strips
Method of preparing the sauce:
  1. Boil the wine with the figs. Remove from heat, cover for 30 minutes.
  2. Remove the figs, and add to the wine cranberries, sugar, and orange peel.
  3. Return to the heat. Simmer until sugar dissolves and then for another 10-15 minutes.
  4. Discard the orange peel, add the figs back in and let cool completely.
Chef's Tip:
When you peel the orange, make sure you don't peel the white pith as well, as it's bitter.
