Fair warning: the pictures of food you will see below look so realistic that you will be tempted to take a bite. Unfortunately, they are not real food. These are, in fact, 3D embroideries created by the artist Youmeng Liu. The British embroidery artist creates food-inspired artworks that are as beautiful as they are realistic.
Using a 3D punch needle technique, Youmeng first pushes the colored thread into the base fabric to make three-dimensional textile ingredients. Then, she sculpts the final form with scissors and brings out their realistic textures and color contrasts. Among the various foods the artist loves to imitate, her favorites include United Kingdom’s iconic delicacies like puddings, baked beans, pastries, sausages, and poached eggs. This isn’t all. She also creates veggies and fruits so yummy you will instantly feel hungry after looking at them.
