Horses are majestic creatures. They are often associated with freedom, elegance and power. These words are certainly captured in the beautiful photographs you are about to see, taken by photographer Carina Maiwald. Hidden in the mountains of Bosnia are animals you would never expect to see. Carina started her trip having not the slightest idea of what would happen during her stay.

All her expectations were exceeded the moment she got a glance of a wild horse. She observed their habits and social structures and upon doing so she realized how unprejudiced these animals are.

During her stay she got the chance to get the know some of the horses, their unique character traits and was even able to create a connection with some of them.

Being able to touch the horses, to exchange caring gestures, is an experience that she'll never forget.

"Wild horses express so much at once: strength and silence, boldness and kindness. They can be terribly cruel sometimes, but also, very caring."

"I have never seen a purer love than the one that exists between a wild horse and its foal."
