Charles Bell was an American painter and photorealist born in 1935. Growing up in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Bell eventually earned a degree in Business administration and served as a Lieutenant in the US Navy. While he always had a love of the arts, being greatly inspired by the masters of his era, he never received any formal training in painting or drawing. That didn’t hold him back in the slightest. In 1967, he set up his own studio where he threw himself into painting and photorealism, while also working as an accountant and a comptroller at the International Nickel Corporation.
Though he exhibited much of his artwork during this time, he finally became a full-time artist only in 1980, creating numerous life-like and colorful pieces of treasured children's mementos. He passed away 15 years later, and now his stunningly realistic still lifes can be found in museums and galleries all across America and the world, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Smithsonian American Art Museum in Washington DC and Japan's Hiroshima City Museum.
