In 1860, Lord Palmerston ordered the erection of three solent forts to cover the most important British naval base from the threat of Napolean the III.
Today, these floating forts are being converted and refurbished. The first to complete its transformation was the Spitbank Fort, which is now a luxury hotel the likes of which the world has rarely seen. A floating man-made island that offers a real disconnection from the mainland, beatiful facilities and a relaxing view to endless ocean waves.
