Vegan Donut Balls

Light and fluffy, these vegan donut balls are a hot take on the store-bought donut. They will go well dipped in jam, cream or powdered sugar. Call the kids to devour them straight off the pot!

Ingredients for donut balls:
Vegetable oil - 2 quarts (for deep frying)
Cake flour - 2 3/4 cups
Brown sugar - 1/4 cup
Ground cinnamon - 1/2 tsp.
Nutmeg - 1/4 tsp.
Ground Allspice - 1/8 tsp.
Salt - 1/2 tsp.
Baking powder - 1/2 tbsp.
Almond milk - 2/3 cup
Coconut oil - 2 tbsp.
Granny smith apple - 2 (peeled and grated)
Margarine - 4 tbsp. (melted)
Vanilla Extract - 1/2 tsp.
Ingredients for sauce:
Powdered sugar - 2 cups
Almond milk - 1/4 cup
Ground cinnamon - 1/2 tsp.
Method of preparing the donut balls:
  1. Whisk together the flour, sugar, dry spices, salt and baking powder. In a separate bowl, whisk together the wet ingredients and the apples.
  2. Combine the wet ingredients slowly into the dry ingredients until you have a smooth, runny paste.
  3. Heat the oil and prepare for deep fry. To check if it's hot enough, drizzle a drop of the batter into the oil. If it shimmers and sizzles immediately- the oil is ready.
  4. With the help of an ice cream scoop or a 1/4 cup measure, dump balls into the oil.
  5. They should flip by themselves. If they don't, give them a little flip with a spoon. Let them fry for 5 minutes are remove to a cooling rack.
  6. Mix all sauce ingredients together and drizzle over the donut balls to serve.
