You're probably familiar with this image depicting the insides of an acoustic guitar and making it look like a lavish luxury apartment. We can't say for sure whether this photo was part of what inspired Charles Brooks to make his own series of photos, but one is certain- we're glad he did. Brooks has been a cellist since childhood. He is fascinated by the human perception of spaces captured in a two-dimensional medium.
His photo series captures the insides of various musical instruments. It's amazing how every instrument is like a music box, holding within it not only an infinity of music but also a scaled-down architectural world. To avoid doing damage to the instrument he used a probe camera. In his visit inside the pianos, he discovered markings and residues from repair and maintenance work done centuries ago!
