Born in 1907, Frida Kahlo began to delve into the world of art as a young child, learning to draw from her father’s friend, whom she would later become an engraving apprentice for. After an accident left her briefly unable to walk, Frida took up medical illustration, combining her interest in science with her love of arts. It was from this point onwards that Frida realized that art could be used to explore various aspects of her identity and her culture. Inspired by the natural landscapes, the society, and the history of Mexico, her pieces were usually portraits and in the realms of naive folk art. These are some of her truly amazing works of art, that played a major role in the development of surrealist and magic realist art.
