17 Miniature Oil Paintings by Remington Robinson

Impressionist art is closely associated with vibrant landscapes created en plein air, and the ability of painters like Van Gogh and Monet to capture the moment and atmosphere of natural landscapes is, in part, why their paintings are so highly regarded. Continuing this tradition but with a fun twist is Colorado-based artist Remington Robinson, who paints pocket-sized and yet realistic-looking oil paintings of the American outdoors in empty mint containers. The artist glues miniature wooden panels on the lids of the mint tins and uses the bottom of the tins as his palette.
And don’t be mistaken, these miniature artworks contain just as much detail and soul as any large painting! To let the viewer compare his painting with the inspiration, Robinson photographs each finished painting in the environment it was painted and then lets the container dry as is. As he points out in an interview with Mymodernment, “It then is basically like a little art artifact. The leftover paint stays in the container, and I just let it dry. I don’t consider it to be wasting the ‘unused' paint that is left in the container after the painting is complete, because that too is, in a way, part of the art piece.” See 17 of the artist’s beautiful artworks below:
