Ellen Jewett is not your regular artist type. Rather, she has a degree in biological anthropology (as well as in art critique), and ha been shaping 3 dimensional sculptures since childhood. She has a passion for the shapes of animal morphology, and while she does make a living as an artist, also plans to earn a second degree in anthrozoology.
The sculptures are all handmade, each piece original and unique. The materials are handmade metal covered with lightweight clay, which is sculpted, then painted. Glass is used for eyes.
What we love about these personally is the morphing of familiar animal shapes into something that, although deviating from the normal shape, is still beautiful and seems to celebrate the animal's beauty and strength rather than diminsh or twist it.
