Audi’s interpretation of what a fully-electric driverless car might look like in the near future broke cover in Frankfurt this year. The sleek exterior cloaks some wonderful technology – all four wheels are driven by their own electric motor, and are powered by a battery pack that has a 435-mile range.
Inside, there’s (naturally) no steering wheel to speak of. Passengers just sit inside the Aicon and enjoy the ride thanks to the vehicle’s autonomous navigation systems. One particularly cool feature inside the Aicon is a touchscreen display that wraps around the car’s dashboard and doors.
Anyone who enjoys cars will have, at the very least, some respect for the established Japanese auto manufacturers, but it’s always exciting when a completely new company joins the fray. Enter the Aspark Owl, which appears to have been inspired by the legendary GT1 racing cars of the 1990s.
The all-electric hypercar is said to weigh just 850 kilograms, and will accelerate to 62 mph (100 km/h) in a mere two seconds. It’s powered by two 40 kilowatt motors that are said to generate 429 horsepower.
BMW has consistently been at the forefront of the auto industry’s gradual shift to electric powertrains, and the i Vision Dynamics showcases how an all-electric BMW saloon of the future could look.
In terms of its length, it sits in the middle of BMW’s current 3-Series and 5-Series models, however it is considerably lower.
The Mini continues its march into the 21st Century unabated. Although its styling makes it immediately recognizable as a Mini, you can instantly tell that there’s something odd going on from the blanked-out grille and yellow accents.
This car is actually going into production in 2019, and will be built at the company’s plant in Oxfordshire, UK.
Lovers of little Hondas of old will undoubtedly have been delighted to see this concept appear in Frankfurt, with its styling paying clear homage to the first-generation Civic of the 1970s.
Details about this cute little car are still sketchy, however the interior features a long touchscreen display similar to the one the Tesla Model 3 has, and it’s rumored to be going on sale in Europe sometime in 2019.
This bonkers SUV from Jaguar is based on an upcoming model, but the manufacturer sent this particular one to its Special Vehicles Operations for a range of “track-spec modifications”. This definitely isn’t an SUV for doing the school run in.
Next year, it’ll be part of a one-make series that will support the all-electric-powered Formula E championship. Sadly, it doesn’t look like there will be a road-going version of this concept car any time soon.
Kia has advanced in leaps and bounds in terms of the products it offers in recent years, but it’s now going one step further and saying that it wants to “reinvent” the family hatchback into a more premium product.
In fact, the Proceed concept actually has a “shooting brake” body, as opposed to a hatchback body. It was shown with an opulent interior that was allegedly inspired by haute couture, but it’s not expected to appear in the production-ready version of this car, which is rumored to be launch sometime next year.
