Christmas, and indeed the holiday time, is not just about celebrating this moment with our families and loved ones, although that is surely the best aspect of it. It is also something that connects us to the past, through our parents to theirs, and their parents and their parents... The holidays are a way to connect ourselves to all those who came before us. Part of that is the retelling of holiday stories that have, with the years, been added by the generations to help us celebrate the holidays.
