Homemade Seed Crackers

Homemade nutritious crackers coming your way! Making crackers at home is much easier than you might have anticipated. This recipe is sugar-free and gluten-free, but you can add sugar and other sweeteners to make sweet crackers. Feel free to adjust the recipe further by adding seasonings like chili or oregano. You can also add or swap some of the seeds with pine nuts or almond slivers. Anything goes, as long as it's thin enough to blend in seamlessly!

Homemade Seed Crackers
Ingredients for seed crackers:
Sunflower seeds - 3/4 cup
Flaxseed - 3/4 cup
Chia seeds - 1/3 cup
Pumpkin seeds - 1/3 cup
Sesame seeds - 1/3 cup
Rolled Oats - 1/4 cup
Cornstarch - 1/2 cup (alternatively, 6 tbsp chickpea flour)
Table salt - 1 1/2 tsp.
Ground black pepper - 1 1/2 tsp.
Olive oil - 1/4 cup
Raw tahini - 2 tbsp.
Method of preparing the seed crackers:
  1. In a small bowl, combine the olive oil, raw tahini, and 1 1/2 cups of boiling water.
  2. In a larger bowl, combine the rest of the ingredients. Pour the liquid mixture, while still hot, over the seeds. Let sit for 15 minutes.
  3. Preheat oven to 340°F. Line 1 baking sheet if you like your crackers thick, and 2 baking sheets if you prefer them thin.
  4. Pour the seed mixture over the lined baking sheets. Cover with another sheet of baking paper. Using a rolling pin, spread the mixture evenly to fill the entire baking sheet. Remove the top piece of baking paper.
  5. If you have 2 baking sheets, bake for 45 minutes. If you have 1, bake it for an hour. After a 20-minute bake, take the sheets out of the oven and slice the big cracker into smaller squares using a pizza knife. If you don't mind uneven shapes, you can skip this step and break the crackers by hand after baking.
  6. Let cool for 10 minutes and then transfer to a wire rack for 15 minutes or so.
