At first glance it's unclear what is so special about these art pieces, but as you get close, the brilliant secret is revealed: The pieces are made from one, single string, bound around thousands of nails. These are the creations of Japanese artist Kumi Yamashita, who has gained an international following for her unusual art works.
To make these creations, the Japanese artist used 3 simple materials: The canvas used as a base, the nails she put through the canvas, and a string that goes through all the nails. By looping the string in certain areas, the artist creates a darker hue and shadows, which allow her to create paintings of faces in black and white. Remember - these creations use no more than one single string! Simply amazing.
