Marvel at a Loner Black Panther Roaming the Jungle

In the photo you see below, a lone black panther is casually making its way through the jungle - the Kabini Forest in Karnataka, India - the natural habitat of this magnificent animal. But taking this single shot is not a casual trip through the forest, it is the result of months of preparation, since finding, let alone getting a good photo of the rare black panther is one of the most time-consuming and laborious tasks there is. We have wildlife photographer Shaaz Jung to thank for this stunning shot, which has recently got viral earning nearly 62K shares and over 265K likes.

This fascination is completely understandable, as black panthers, or melanistic leopards, as they're technically known, are extremely rare - only 10% of the entire population of these animals are born black. Fun fact - although melanistic leopards and jaguars are born black, they still have distinct spots that can be seen from up-close.

It has been estimated that there are no more 15,000 black panthers left in the wild, and their numbers are declining due to deforestation and hunting. Apart from black panthers, Shaaz Jung also photographs other, no less impressive, big cats like tigers, leopards, and lions. Marvel the strength and beauty of these gorgeous felines below.
