Quite a number of essential oils also contain anti-inflammatory properties, including eucalyptus, lavender oil, and melaleuca. Applying a single drop should be enough to help reduce swelling, itching, and pain.
2. Hydrocortisone Cream
Hydrocortisone contains powerful anti-inflammatory properties, which are extremely beneficial when dealing with an irritating bug bite. Simply apply some cream to the affected area to keep the itch under control and to ease any swelling.
3. Antihistamines
Your body's natural defenses against allergens are known as histamines. Unfortunately, they attempt to get rid of allergens from your body by making you sneeze, get watery eyes, and have itchy skin. However, an antihistamine, such as Claritin or Benadryl, can help reduce itching and swelling caused by bug bites by blocking histamine action in your body.

If your first-aid supplies are running low, rubbing alcohol can be used to temporarily cool an itch. Just dab a bit of it onto the affected area to receive a cooling effect caused by the alcohol's quick evaporation.
5. Pain Relief Cream
There are plenty of pain-relieving creams and lotions, which are very effective at treating bug bites. There are thousands of different ones available, but some of the most highly-recommended ones are Resinol, AfterBite, and Gold Bond with Lidocaine.

Basil leaves are full of chemicals that fight inflammation, as well as plenty of essential oils that can cause a pleasant cooling effect. To apply, crush a basil leaf between your fingers, then rub it onto any bug bites.
7. Hemorrhoid Cream
While hemorrhoid cream isn't officially meant for treating bug bites, it's actually been found to do a pretty darn good job. Dabbing a bit of it onto the affected area will help to reduce any burning, itching or swelling.
8. Hot Water
The pain from a bug bite comes from the irritation of nerves in your skin. By applying hot water to the affected area, you'll be able to effectively overload your nerves with the intensity of the heat, thereby proving welcome, albeit temporary, relief. Be careful that the water isn't too hot though, otherwise you'll be dealing with scalds instead.
