1. The Largest Oil Tanker in the World
The Seawise Giant was the largest oil tanker ever constructed, spanning an impressive 1,504 feet (458m). In fact, if it was to be placed within Central Park's main lake, there would only be 350 feet (106m) of extra space left in front and behind it.
2. Russia's Mir Mine
Russia's Mir Mine is by far one of the world's deepest open pit mines, going down to a depth of 1,722 feet (525m). If the Willis Tower, which is the 2nd tallest building in the USA, were to be placed within the mine, the tip of the tower would only be 7 feet (2.1m) above the surface.
3. NASA's M-1 Rocket Motor
Although it never ended up being built, way back in the 1950s NASA designed the M-1 motor, which would have been the largest motor ever constructed. It was designed with a diameter of 14 feet (4.2m), meaning that it would have been wide enough to completely eclipse a standard Smart Car, with an additional 2 feet (0.6m) of breathing room on either side.
4. Star Wars' Death Star
The fictional 'Death Star' from the iconic Star Wars franchise is said to have an estimated width of approximately 99 miles (159km). This means that if this fantastical spacecraft were ever to land on Florida, at least a quarter of the state would be immediately destroyed.
5. The Breathing Scorpion
The Pulmonoscorpius kirktonensis, more commonly known as the breathing scorpion, is an extinct pre-historic scorpion that was able to grow up to 28 inches (71cm) long, which is roughly the size of the average domestic cat. Thankfully, the oxygen levels of the present day are too low for scorpions to ever grow to such a size again!
6. The World's Largest Radio Telescope
The largest radio telescope on Earth can be found in the Chinese province of Guizhou. With a diameter of 1,600 feet (487m), if moved to Las Vegas, it would cover most of The Venetian, all of the Harrahs, all of the LINQ, and around half of The Mirage.
7. The B-2 Bomber
Also known as the Stealth Bomber, the B-2 Bomber is one of the most expensive and advanced airplanes on Earth. While it's complex technical attributes are highly impressive, the sheer size of this aircraft is just as spectacular. Its wingspan is a whopping 172 feet (52m), making it 12 feet (3.6m) wider than an official NFL football field.
8. The Titanic
When the Titanic was built, it was one of the largest ships that the world had ever seen, with a total length of 882 feet and 9 inches (269m). However, the art of ship-building has come a long way since the Titanic, and if it were to be placed on the U.S.S. Ronald Reagan's deck, there would actually be 210 feet (64m) left.
9. The Dionysus Asteroid
Forming part of the Apollo asteroid belt, the Dionysus asteroid is believed to be almost 5000 feet (1.5km) wide, and the value of its resources are estimated to be worth around $2,600,000,000,000 ($2.6 trillion). Incredibly though, if it were to hover above the Golden Gate Bridge, it still wouldn't surpass the bridge's span.
10. Dubai's Burj Khalifa
Currently the tallest building on the planet, the Burj Khalifa stands proud at a mind-boggling 2,722 feet (830m). If relocated to New York, it would stretch almost 1,300 feet (396m) past the Empire State Building, and close to 1,000 feet (305m) past the One World Trade Center.
