On This Day: March 8th is International Women's Day. In 1917, it was also the date when rioting began, this was the Russian revolution. A little known fact is that, it was indeed a women textile workers' strike, inspired by the fledgling 'Women's Day', in Petrograd that started the revolution. A week later, the emperor Nicholas II abdicated and the new government granted women the right to vote.
