Mencius, one of the most prominent Confucian philosophers in Chinese history, lived during the Warring States period (372–289 BC). Known as the “Second Sage,” he carried forward Confucius’ teachings while adding his own profound insights on human nature, ethics, and governance. A central part of his philosophy is the belief that people are good by nature and that moral values should be nurtured in society.
