Everyone on the internet knows that cats are intrinsically funny, but photographer Harry Frees’ work shows that this knowledge predates the World Wide Web by almost a century. Frees made a career for himself photographing small animals. Although he started photographing them in 1902, he first got the idea to dress them up in 1905. He borrowed animals from anyone willing to lend them to him, and their outfits were made by Frees’ housekeeper and mother. Take a look at these adorable vintage photos:
