Vincent Van Gogh was the ultimate tortured artist. Although so very talented, he was never recognized in his own time, and indeed lived a poor, hard life. Even his, arguably, magnum opus depicts a scene from a mental institution. Despite this, he managed to create some of the most beautiful paintings in art history, which make hearts and eyes sing for centuries.
