Dame Maggie Smith is easily one of the most talented actresses of her generation. She’s had a prolific career on stage, in film, and in television spanning over six decades and is one of the most inspirational figures of the entertainment industry.
Born in Ilford, Essex, England, in 1934, Smith started her career on New York’s Broadway before moving on to films. Her professional stage debut was in 1952 where she essayed the role of Viola in an Oxford University Dramatics Society production of Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night. She soon left her mark in the world of cinema as well and won an Academy Award for her performance in The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie (1969). In the last couple of decades, Smith has got great acclaim for her famous roles in the acclaimed television series Downton Abbey and the popular Harry Potter films. At 86, Smith has no plans of hanging up her boots and even has a Netflix film lined up for release in November 2021 named A Boy Called Christmas.
