Alexander Calder was a renowned sculptor from Pennsylvania known for his unique style and abstract constructs. Calder grew up around the arts but became a mechanical engineer before pursuing an artist’s life in the 1920s. He combined his two skills, creating movable sculptures equipped with motors. His sculptures can be found in museums and public places all across the world, from Israel to Canada. Many of his works created and exhibited during World War II had a major impact on the art community. In 1975, he was commissioned to paint the very first vehicle in the BMW Art Car Project, a BMW 3.0 CSL. His sculptures continue to be held in exceptionally high regard.
