A DIY Treat: Make a Yummy Brownie Mix In a Mason Jar

Make your own decorative brownie mix in a mason jar with this quick and simple DIY project, and it’s also makes for a perfect as a gift. (And the brownies are delicious!)
The ingredients you’ll need are: 1 cup, 2 tbsp of all-purpose flour 1/2 teaspoon salt 2/3 cup packed brown sugar 2/3 cup sugar 1/3 cup baking cocoa 1/2 cup of chocolate chips 1/2 cup vanilla or white chips 1/2 cup of chopped pecans A mason jar to hold all of the above
Preparation: Pour the first ingredient into the jar, pour a layer of half an inch or so of your first ingredient. Gently shake the jar to straighten the first layer, then pour in a different ingredient. (Make sure each layer is a different color to create a beautiful contrast between layers, as pictured above) Continue until the jar is 3/4 full, then add the chocolate chips and pecans (for a decorative version that will last longer, avoid the pecans and chocolate chips). Seal the jar. You can now print the baking instructions I included at the bottom of the page and use them as labels.
If you want to make your own labels, here are the additionally needed ingredients and preparation instructions: Additional ingredients: 3 eggs 2/3 cup canola oil 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Directions In a small bowl, combine flour and salt. In a 1-qt. glass container, layer the flour mixture, brown sugar, sugar, cocoa, chips and pecans. Cover and store in a cool dry place for up to 6 months.Yield: 1 batch (about 4 cups total). To prepare brownies: In a large bowl, whisk the eggs, oil and vanilla. Add brownie mix; stir until blended. Spread into a greased 9-in. square baking pan. Bake at 350° for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean (do not overbake). Cool on a wire rack. Yield: 16 servings. (Total time: Prep: 15 min. Bake: 25 min. Yield: 16 servings)
