The thing I like most about modern technology is not necessarily the amazing inventions we see unfolding every day. What thrills me the most is how many of these inventions are now coming from individuals instead of companies, and how it seems that the trend is that independent engineers and other technically skilled people can make all kinds of terrific things at home. For me, that is the essence of invention and science. I'd like to show you three terrific inventions that have been done just so. The first one, I have to admit, is my favorite. This is a genius example of using computer mapping creatively. The fish is obviously enjoying itself, and seems to be pushing towards certain direction. However, just giving a gold fish the ability to move around your house is, I believe, quite bloody marvellous. |
The second invention is clever in the way the engineer took a 3d printer and changed it into an air hocky playing robot that actually beats him 3 out of 4 times. If someone in their home can make such a robot, I wonder how far we've come. |
Last but certainly not least is the 3d printed hands that people are building and perfecting for themselves. This more than anything symbolizes for me the age of home tech - the age in which we make our own technology, tailored to our individual needs, and not some company's idea of what we rquire. |
