Making shadow puppets on a wall was a super fun children's game. Remember how thrilled we would be when we successfully made the shadow of a fish or a bunny? For us, those shadows were no less than magical works of art. Well, artist Vincent Bal takes that concept to a whole new level. The Belgian artist creates a variety of whimsical doodles using shadows cast from everyday objects, and his artworks will bring an instant smile to your face.
In Vincent’s world, a shadow cast by a pair of sunglasses becomes the wings of a butterfly, and a hand sanitizer bottle serves as a lamp for a genie! This series of artworks, named “Shadowology” by the artist, was introduced in 2016 and has garnered plenty of attention online. In fact, such was the popularity of these shadow doodles that Vincent went on to make a short film that incorporated his drawings.
Here, we feature some of the most playful shadow doodles by Vincent Bal. These ingenious illustrations are fun to look at, and we’re sure that you will enjoy them as much as we did.
