Sujay Sanan, a South Africa-based artist, makes gorgeous animal paintings. But they aren’t like any animal paintings you’ve seen before. In his delicate watercolors, the artist merges animals with their natural habitats.
We often see portraits of animals in their own habitats. Sujay, however, creates sublime watercolor paintings of animals with their surroundings embedded within them. Simply put, he merges natural landscapes with the silhouettes of animals such as leopards, tigers, foxes, whales, and birds.
The artist has been painting for almost nine years now and is inspired by the natural world. Each of his paintings begins with a delicate watercolor palette on a blank background, representing the beauty and depth of his animal subjects. Then, he devotes his attention to their landscapes, which vary from lush African jungles to verdant mountaintops and pristine riversides.
