We all want to save as much as we can on current expenses, but this is sometimes hard to do when you need to purchase certain items at the supermarket every week. However, you can ease the expenses if you know how to make certain things at home, such as fabric softener. While this product may seem inexpensive, if you do a lot of laundry, you’re probably going through many bottles of it a year. In addition, not only will you cut your expenses, but you can also use ingredients that won’t be harsh on your skin or clothes, and you can also infuse them with the aromas you love by using different essential oils. At the end of the article, you will find some recommendations for essential oil combos.
For this softener, you’ll need only two ingredients you probably already own, and you can give it the scent you choose by adding your favorite essential oils.

Ingredients:
Preparation and use instructions:
1. Mix the ingredients together in a jar.
2. Add 2 tablespoons of salt to a small load of laundry or 4 tablespoons to a large load.
This liquid softener makes use of vinegar as its active ingredient, which helps soften the laundry. To add a pleasant smell, use the essential oil of your choice.

Ingredients:
Preparation and use instructions:
1. Mix the water and essential oil in a bowl until you get a uniform mixture.
2. Add the white vinegar, mix well and transfer to a jar.
3. Add a quarter cup of softener to your laundry.
Not only will you use essential oil to add a sweet smell to your softener, but you will also strengthen it with Epsom salt and baking soda, which help remove bad smells from clothing.

Ingredients:
Preparation and use instructions:
1. Mix the salt and essential oil together.
2. Add the baking soda.
3. Store the powder you created in a sealable jar.
4. Add 2-3 tablespoons of powder to a load.
For this softener, you’ll use a hair conditioner - which is twice as cheap than fabric softener. This is a solution that can help you especially if you find yourself out of softener, but you have a hair conditioner at home, or if you really like the smell of your conditioner and want to add it to your laundry.

Ingredients:
Preparation and use instructions:
1. Mix the water, vinegar, and conditioner together in a large bowl, but do it slowly so as not to create bubbles.
2. Transfer the mixture to a jar.
3. Add 2 tablespoons of the softener to a small load of laundry, or a quarter cup to a large load.
If you want to save on dryer sheets, you can make your own using old fabrics you no longer need.

Ingredients:
Preparation and use instructions:
1. Cut the fabric into 4 small squares.
2. Mix the vinegar and essential oil, and transfer the mixture to a jar.
3. Place the squares in the jar and let them absorb the solution. Turn the jar over every once in a while so that the cloth absorbs the liquid completely.
4. Hang the squares to dry, and when the time comes to dry your clothes, place one of them in the dryer with your laundry.
5. Each dryer sheet is good for 20 loads.
With the following combinations, you can make your own great smelling fabric softeners:
