7 Baby Products You Can Make at Home

The market is filled with a wide selection of baby products specifically formulated for infants. However, many of these products contain chemicals that could potentially cause irritations or negative reactions in newborns. Because of this, numerous parents opt for natural alternatives that can be prepared at home. By doing so, they have full control over the ingredients used and are aware of how it will affect their baby's delicate skin.

To help you create your own natural remedies for your little one, we suggest trying out the following homemade "recipes" designed to address common issues such as diaper rash. These remedies not only provide relief but also ensure that your child's skin receives beneficial components.

It is important to note that all the ingredients required for these homemade products can be easily purchased at pharmacies or health centers. If you have concerns about potential irritation, it is advisable to consult with your pediatrician regarding their safety before use. Alternatively, you can test a small amount of the preparation on your baby's skin to determine if any allergic reactions or sensitivities occur.

1. Diaper paste
Every home with a baby inevitably has a tube of diaper paste, but instead of resorting to commercial products, you can create your own effective remedy. This exceptional concoction is suitable for both disposable and cloth diapers and contains beneficial ingredients like coconut oil, calendula flowers, and chamomile. Coconut oil serves as an excellent defense against diaper rash and fungal infections, while calendula possesses anti-inflammatory properties that aid in healing irritated skin. Chamomile combines all these qualities into one powerful ingredient that not only treats existing skin issues but also prevents future problems from arising.

To make this homemade diaper paste, you will need the following components: ½ cup of coconut oil, 1 tablespoon each of calendula flowers and chamomile flowers, ¼ cup shea butter, and optionally 1 teaspoon of zinc oxide powder.

Follow the preparation steps provided below:

1. Begin by heating water in a pot and placing another pot, known as a Bain Marie, on top of it so that the bottom of the upper pot touches the water. In the upper pot, combine coconut oil with calendula and chamomile flowers. Allow this mixture to heat for at least an hour over low-medium heat. You will know it's ready when the coconut oil changes color to a delicate yellow and releases a lovely floral scent (Note: Be careful not to let the water in the lower pot evaporate; make sure it always touches the bottom of the upper pot. If necessary, add boiling water to maintain proper contact).

2. Set up a bowl and strain your oil using a strainer with thick holes (such as a metal strainer) into said bowl. Make sure that none of the flower parts pass through into your final product.

3. Transfer your coconut oil mixture into either a food processor or blender and add shea butter along with zinc oxide powder. Mix these ingredients until you achieve a soft and velvety consistency.

4.Transfer this homemade cream into either clean glass or plastic jars for storage purposes until needed.

2. Baby massage oil

Massage oils provide a natural way to nourish the baby's skin, but it is important to avoid store-bought options that contain artificial fragrances. These fragrances are not recommended for absorption into the baby's delicate skin. Instead, you can create your own oil blend that is enriched with vitamin F, which consists of omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids. This oil blend provides concentrated moisture to the skin and helps prevent dryness, especially during winter.

To make this wonderful oil blend, you will need:
- 1 cup of apricot kernel oil
- 2 tablespoons of calendula flowers
- 2 tablespoons of chamomile flowers

Here's how to prepare it:
1. Start by heating water in a pot.
2. Once the water has heated up, place another pot on top of it (known as a Bain Marie). Make sure that the bottom of the upper pot touches the water.
3. In the upper pot, combine apricot kernel oil and the calendula and chamomile flowers.
4. Heat this mixture on a low-medium flame for at least an hour.
5. Keep an eye on both pots throughout this process; ensure that there is always contact between them without letting all water evaporate from below (if necessary add boiling water).

During this time, you will notice changes in color and aroma as the apricot kernel oil takes on a delicate yellow hue and releases floral scents.

6. Once ready, strain out any solid particles from your homemade massage oil using a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth.

Now you have your very own nourishing massage oil enriched with vitamin F! Use this gentle formula to moisturize your baby's skin while providing soothing massages throughout all seasons.

Remember: Always perform a patch test before applying any new product onto your baby's skin to check for allergies or sensitivities

3. Baby powder

While talc remains popular among many individuals, some parents choose not to use it on their babies due to concerns about inhalation and potential respiratory issues. Fortunately, you can create your own natural diaper powder at home using arrowroot powder, which is a gentle starch that soothes irritated skin and rashes. Arrowroot powder can be found in stores specializing in natural products or Asian goods, making it easy to obtain for preparing this wonderful baby product.
Ingredients:
- ½ cup of powdered cane maranta

7. Alleviating toothaches and stomachaches

Infants often experience severe abdominal pain as well as discomfort caused by teething. There are natural extracts called "tinctures" that can provide relief from these pains. The tincture described here contains three simple components; one of them being alcohol. However, there is no need to worry as this alcohol can be evaporated during preparation to ensure safety when using the final product. This particular extract utilizes chamomile flowers known for their soothing properties which effectively soothe both toothaches and stomachaches, providing comfort for your baby throughout day and night.
Components:

- ¾ cup of dried chamomile flowers
- ½ to 1 cup of boiling water
- ½ cup of vodka or rum (under no circumstances should medicinal or disinfecting alcohol be used)

Preparation:

1. Place the chamomile blossoms into a jar with a capacity of 3 cups and pour the hot water over them.
2. Gently stir the jar and fill it up to the brim with vodka or rum. Seal tightly using a lid and store in a cool, dark location for a period of 4-6 weeks.
3. After this time has passed, strain the liquid through either a sieve or cloth diaper, transferring it into an air-tight container or one equipped with a dropper. To remove any residual alcohol content, leave the liquid exposed to air in an open container for two hours before transferring it once again.
4. Should you experience stomach or tooth discomfort, apply 1-3 drops of this extract onto your teeth or abdomen once or twice daily, massaging thoroughly so that the chamomile extract can penetrate your skin or gums effectively.
