Let us raise a glass and toast to bubbly's great health benefits! That's right, this drink is indeed good for you. Studies show that Champagne and other sparkling wines are good for the heart, the skin and plenty more. Research shows that sipping one glass of champagne a week is enough to reap its health benefits. So, as with any booze, be sure not to go overboard - overindulging can be detrimental to your health.

1. It will improve your skin

Champagne's carbon dioxide may help tighten your skin. It also contains polyphenols (plant chemicals with antioxidant properties), which may help combat redness. To reap the benefits, soak in a soothing bath of it, by combining 1 cup powdered milk and 1/2 cup Epsom salt in a bowl. Then add 1 or more cups of any sparkling wine (you need not splurge on the pricey stuff) and 1 tablespoon of honey, warm in the microwave for 30 seconds. Stir well and pour your mixture into a running bath water.


For added benefits, add rose petals to the bath - to help hydrate and tone your skin. If you're really in an indulgent mood, sip a glass while you soak.

 

2. It will lift your spirit

If you're feeling a little grumpy, Champagne will lift your spirits. It has been found to contain natural trace elements that may help boost your mood, when taken in moderation. To enhance its benefits, pair Champagne with a fish dish. The crisp flavors of champagne match perfectly with seafood, and opting for fatty fish rich in omega 3 - such as salmon and mackerel - will boost your happiness further.

3. Opt for Champagne if watching your weight

For a figure-friendly drink, the bubbly is your best bet (unless you consume it by the gallon). A small flute (about a 4-ounce pour) contains just 78 calories. Brut Champagne is one of the lowest-calorie libations you can have.

 

4. It will improve your memory

A 2013 study from Reading University has shown that drinking three glasses of Champagne a week could help prevent memory loss and protect your brain from diseases like Alzheimer's and dementia. It was discovered that the grapes used in Champagne (Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier) have high levels of phenolics (a colorless crystalline solid and aromatic compound) which help modulate signals in the hippocampus and cortex - parts of the brain associated with memory and learning.


Furthermore, according to the study, Champagne appears to help restore protein counts to normal levels. So far though, studies have only been conducted on animals.

5. It's good for your heart

Champagne is just as healthy for your heart as a glass of red wine is. That's because Champagne is made from red, as well as white, grapes and therefore contains most resveratrol - an important antioxidant that prevents damage to your blood vessels, reduces bad cholesterol and prevents blood clots.

6. It lowers blood pressure

The antioxidants found in Champagne further protect the heart, by slowing down the removal of nitric acid from the blood, which results in lower blood pressure. In fact, according to a study published in the British Journal of Nutrition, when two groups were given either champagne or a different alcoholic beverage, only the former experienced slower removal of nitric acid.
