A young boy who lost his parents to AIDS and who now is infected with HIV must now fend for himself in his parent's shack in China since no one wants to get close enough to care for him.
Ah Long, only six-years-old, has been living alone in his parent's home in Guangxi Province, China since they died of AIDS. |
He has an 84-year-old grandmother who planted some vegetables for him, does some cooking and visits him, but she will not have him live with her. He was born with HIV. |
The boy has no friends other than a dog named Lao Hei. The primary school will not allow him to attend classes, doctors refuse to treat any wounds he has, and even his government's Welfare Department has turned its back on him.
The civil bureau gives Ah Long 70 yuan (about $10.50 USD) monthly subsistence allowance, but it is not enough for the young boy to live on.
Ah Long studies all by himself, as best he can, and also does his own washing and much of his own cooking. He raises a few chickens, as well.
